G’day! I’m Peter, a farmer in South Australia.

Face the Wind Photography is a South Australian photography business specialising in rural South Australian life, including rodeo, equine, storm and outdoor action photography, as well as local events and potentially family photography.

​

My photography is built around capturing people, animals, places and moments in challenging and unpredictable environments—from fast-moving rodeo action and horses to dramatic South Australian weather and storm systems.

​

The photography has a natural, authentic style, with an emphasis on capturing the moment and atmosphere rather than over-processing the image.

​

My gear is a mix of new and second-hand, but I’ve found that the best images come from practice and patience, not just the latest technology.

​

Selected images are available for purchase after rodeos and other noteworthy events, whether they involve weather, local happenings or something special happening in the community.

​

Weather is a big part of my life and photography. I have a long-standing interest in South Australian weather and storm development, and I also help distribute in a fortnightly South Australian weather forecast provided free of charge to around 700 farmers across the state. It combines my interest in weather with information that can be useful to people working on the land.

​

I’ve even chased and photographed tornadoes in the USA! It was an opportunity to take my weather photography beyond South Australia and experience severe weather on a completely different scale. When the right conditions come together here at home, I’m still more than happy to head out and chase a storm.

​

I hope to share more through blogs, whether it’s following a storm chase, photographing a rodeo or simply documenting life around rural South Australia. On our farm, we have crops, sheep, cattle, horses and more dogs than you can count—six Jack Russells, two Kelpies and a Jack Russell/Kelpie cross. Many of them join me on my photography adventures!

Face the Wind Photography started as a hobby and has grown into a way of sharing the people, animals, landscapes, weather and events that make rural South Australia such an interesting place to photograph.

The journey is still evolving, and that’s part of the fun. There’s always something new to photograph, learn and improve.
